Located in South Wales and dominated by the Welsh capital, Cardiff, this region benefits from good road and rail links with the rest of the United Kingdom. There has been enormous investment in the City and the location of the newly elected Welsh Assembly has done much to raise Cardiff's profile both at home and abroad.
While other areas of Wales have struggled to recover from the closure of collieries and other concerns Cardiff had a sufficiently diverse base to allow it to continue with much light industry especially in its waterfront area.
Outside of the city much of the land is suitable for agriculture and many large farms prosper, especially with a ready made market in nearby Cardiff. Tourism is also popular with visitors from both Wales and England.
