Centrally located in the East Midlands region of England this county is possibly best known for the popular figure of Robin Hood who is said to have robbed from the rich to give to the poor in Sherwood Forest. Much of the landscape covered in dense forest as it is ill suited to farming although dairy farming and assorted crops are grown around the Rivers Trent and Belvoir. Also along the Trent there can be found many electric pwer stations which use the rivers waters for cooling purposes.
The industrial heartland of the region is largely in the south west and centred around the city of Nottingham. The mining of coal helped to establish a great deal of heavy industry in this area athough the area is traditionally known for the production of lace. Much of this industry still survives at least partially due to it's central location coupled with good road and rail links with the rest of the country.
