Bounded to the south by London and located in the southern area of England this county has increasingly been populated by commuters and others trying to escape the crush of the capital. Much of the land features beautiful, rolling countryside which has to be protected by 'Green Belt' legislation.
Many of Londons new towns such as Hemel Hempstead are located in this county together with more important industrial towns such as Watford which have benefitted from excellent road and rail links with the capital. Much light industry has flourished as there is no shortage of skilled labour from London.
