Located in north west Scotland and created in 1975 the main town in this region is Aberdeen. Much of the produce from the region has a reputation for high quality and is sold throughout the world. Traditional products such as haggis, whisky and salmon are associated with Scotland and many manufacturers in the region have successfully exploited this.
Aberdeen has fully exploited the oil and gas industry since drilling first began in the North Sea. Many engineering industries have located in the region but not at the expense of the more traditional industries of farming, forestry and textiles. Tourism is also important and events such as the Highland Games attract many visitors.
