Durham lends it's name to both a city and a county located in the far north east of England and was once a strategic defensive post in the battle to contain the Scots to the north.
More famous for it's cathedral and University than for it's industry Durham has struggled to find it's place on the table occupied by Newcastle and Teeside which themselves have also struggled through recession.
