Often lumped together with Cornwall which shares the southwestern peninsula of England, Devon is England's third largest county and has a diverse economic base which has helped it to prosper.
The coastal areas are mild and encourage both tourism and the farming of fruits and flowers not usually grown in the UK wheras inland the weather is harsher and the huge moorlands support a wide range of rural industries including cattle and dairy farming. Fishing is still important and the ports such as Plymouth remain active.
