Introducing Derry
Known locally as Derry, this city and district is located on the banks of the River Foyle with the Irish Republic to the west. The city still preserves the city walls although the modern city has subsequently outgrown them.

Colonised by English and Scottish protestants at the time of James I of England the area has had a turbulent history, most recently in the civil disturbances and bombing which have brought the area unwelcome worldwide fame since the late 60\'s.

The city features a number of ligh industries with the manufacture of clothing being among the most noteworthy empoyers.

Unemployment is still high however. Outside the city farming is still important and Salmon are commercially fished in the River Foyle. There has been great financial investment in an attempt to provide stability and there are several new industrial estates across the region.
