This aptly named central region of Scotland features many popular tourist destinations but also includes the important industrial town of Falkirk. Emerging as an industrial centre with the discovery of coal and iron ore nearby, Falkirk grew to support a great deal of heavy industry. Indeed Falkirk is still the main iron casting town in Scotland although it's importance has reduced since it's heyday.
The Trossachs lie between Loch Achray and Loch Katrine and are a popular destination for tourists to the region. This mountainous region was made famous by William Wordsworth and Sir Walter Scott and has continued to draw visitors ever since.
