Located in the west of Scotland over the basin of the River Clyde and extending to the west coast this region was created in 1975 has Glasgow as it's main town. There are many towns both old and new in the region making it the most populous in Scotland.
This is also the most industrialised region of Scotland which grew from the discovery of coal to the east of Glasgow. The southern areas are less industrial and the lowland areas are extensively farmed. Along the west coast of the region are many resort towns which have catered for the population of Glasgow for many years and still attract tourists to their shores.
