Created as an administrative district in 1974 Cleveland is located in the north east of England and has benefited from the discovery of oil in the North Sea which has added to it's more traditional base as a manufacturer of steel.

Middlesborough is the largest town in the region and is a major manufacturing town which has struggled to prosper through several nationwide recessions which have hit the area particularly hard.
